mpq6400 ? l ow quiescent current programmable - delay supervisory ci rcuit mpq6400 rev. 1.1 www.monolithicpower.com 8 5/24/2016 mps proprietary information. patent protected. unauthorized photocopy and duplication prohibited. ? 2016 mps. all rights reserved. application informat ion reset output function the mpq6400 reset output is typically c onnected to the reset input of a microprocessor , as shown in fig ure 3 . when reset is not asserted , a pull up resistor must be connected to hold this signal high . the voltage of r eset signal is allowed to be higher than v cc (up to 6v) through a resistor pull ing up from supply line. if the voltage is below 0.8v, reset output is un define d. this condition can be ignored generally because that most microprocessors do not function at this state. w h en both sense and mr are higher than their threshold voltage , reset ou tput holds logic high. once either of the two drops below their threshold, reset will be asserte d. figure 3 ?t y pical application of mpq6400 with microprocessor from the point that mr is again logic high and sense is above v it + v hys (the threshold hysteresis), reset will be driven to a logic high after a re set delay time. the reset delay time is programmable by c delay pin. due to the finite impedance of reset pin, the pull up resisto r should be bigger than 10 k. monitor a voltage the sense input pin is connected to the monitored system voltage directly or through a resistor network (on mpq6400 d g - 01) . when the voltage on the pin is below v it , reset is asserted. a threshold hysteresis will pr eve nt the chip from responding perturbation on sense pin . a 1nf to 10nf bypass capacitor should be put on this pin to increase its immunity to noise . a ty pical application of the mpq6400 d g - 0 1 is shown in fig ure 4 . two external resistor s form a voltage divider from monitored voltage to gnd. its tap connects to the sense pin. the circuit can be used to monitor any voltage higher than 0.4v. figure 4 ? mpq6400d g - 01 monitor ing a user - defined voltage monitor multiple system voltages the manual reset ( mr ) can introduce another logic signal to control the reset . when mr is a logic low (0. 25v cc ), reset will be asserted. after both sense and mr are above their threshold s, reset will be driven to a logic high after a re set delay time . the mr is internal ly connected to v cc through a 90 k resistor so this pin can float. see how multiple system voltages are monitored by mr in fig ure 5 . if the signal on mr isn?t up to v cc , there will be an additional current through internal 90k pull up resistor. a logic - level fet can be used to minimize the leakage , as shown in fig ure 6 . figure 5 ? mpq6400 family monitor ing multiple system voltages
